How's it going man? It's been a long time, I've been craving new EssenceOfTrance songs for a long time now, you are seriously the master at producing trance music, I have yet to come across an artist that has much inspirational trance as you do.

I still listen to 2nd Storm, Laws of Gravity, and Sunny Winter all the time on my MP3 player. I like to listen to them while I'm half asleep on the bus on my way home from college, they truly do put me into a 'trance' so to speak. After listening to this song, I'm definitely adding it to my MP3 collection and it's going straight to my MP3 player. It's really nice to hear from you again!

Hmmmmm

The backround synths are ok and the drumline needs more variation. The lead synth is probably the closest thing to hearing someone scratch a chalkboard with long nails, you should definitely replace it to something easier on the ears.

As for the melody, not to brag but I honestly could have made something better by thinking up notes and instruments on the spot. It needs major improvement.
If no one can remember the melody 30 seconds after they listen to it, it's no bueno. The notes are kinda randomly placed.

It needs to undergo a major mixing and mastering process as well, there are only 3 instruments the entire time, you should be using at least 7 for the entire song. There are also no real fill ins or transitions.

I'm not gonna say you suck or that this doesn't deserve top 5, because the top 5 here on newgrounds has pretty much gone down the crapper. I will try to help you improve though. Just keep making music, keep learning and experimenting, but if you recognize that what you are making is crap, chuck it : /

Hey Tilky, thanks for your in-depth review and your words.

The funny thing about this song is that me and my buddy timraband (we share this account) we have 100 songs published here on NG. All styles, some with more than 20 instruments, some with less. Techno, Orchestral, Pop... Anything goes... Some with days of tweaking, mixing, editing.

But from all these songs, the one that ended up being featured is this one. And people are still downloading and favoriting it. To every low-score review, there is an favorite and 10 downloads.

If I could, I would had choosen another song to be featured... Sin Tea and Bitting Booty by me are way better technos, and I would love if you could check'em out and give your input.

But, this one is the one that ended up in the top-5, why? I honestly don't know.

So, your points are great, and if you look at other tracks by me, you'll see that I follow them on most of my songs... But, isn't it strange that the repetitive one is featured?

It makes me wonder, you know?
Its not that i'm deaf to the criticisms, I really take them all to heart and agree with most of them. But if some people liked it enough to it be featured (the downloads and favorites just keep going up).
I let this one go.

But, if you can, check my other songs!
I'm sure you'll enjoy more.

FL studio 9.1, z3ta+, ogun, panflute and other instruments all from the free SGM V2.01 soundfont (google it), plus a shitload of drum samples.
